Policemen in South Africa arrested after allegedly appearing on video shooting suspect dead

The footage was released in a Sunday newspaper yesterday.

FOUR POLICEMEN IN South Africa have been arrested after appearing in a video allegedly shooting a suspected robber dead.

The video appears to show the individual in question being shot at from close range by police officers.

The man being pursued by police is shown running down a residential street while carrying a gun.

After being shot in the arm he then drops his weapon.

Lying on the ground with his gun out of reach, a police officer then appears to shoot him in the chest, according to the South African Sunday Times which has published the CCTV footage.

Another policeman is alleged to then have run over and kicked the man in the chest.

The incident happened in the west of Johannesburg around two weeks ago with the footage being released yesterday.

It is alleged that Khulekani Mpanza, the suspected criminal who was shot dead, had been involved in a shootout with police prior to the incident.

The BBC reported in August that eight policemen were convicted on murder following the death of a Mozambican taxi driver who was tied and dragged behind a police van in 2013.
