Got gift vouchers? Use them soon, says consumer group

With nearly half of people allowing cards expire, the National Consumer Agency wants people to make a plan to spend theirs.

OVER THE CHRISTMAS period many people will have amassed gift vouchers.

But with many of those vouchers carrying expiration dates, the National Consumer Agency is advising people to use them immediately.

Research recently carried out by the NCA suggested that 48 per cent of people won’t use vouchers in time.

Last year, their helpline received over 800 calls about vouchers, the NCA says.

Chief Executive of the National Consumer Agency, Karen O’Leary says, “It is very important if you received a gift voucher or card for Christmas that you check the expiry date, terms and conditions and make a plan to spend the voucher promptly.

“This will ensure you get the enjoyment out of the gift and reduce the risk of problems occurring when you go to use it.”
