Three stabbings involving four inmates at Cloverhill Prison

The violent attacks happened over a period of three days.

THREE STABBINGS AT Cloverhill Prison are being investigated after a row between four men turned into tit-for-tat attacks.

The attacks were sparked after a row started last week between three inmates in the open area of the prison.

Two men fashioned a blade using personal grooming items and managed to cut the man they were arguing with. Prison officers were able to get to him in time and he was brought to the doctor’s surgery in the prison and was treated for his wounds.

A day later, a number of men rounded on one of the attackers and he was repeatedly stabbed. This man was brought to Tallaght Hospital for treatment and has since been returned to the remand prison.

Another inmate at the prison was also injured in the melee but he suffered superficial injuries and was treated on site at the Dublin campus.

A spokesman for the Irish Prison Service said it is investigating the incidents.

Attacks

Back in October,  a prison officer was treated in hospital after being slashed with a homemade knife in Portlaoise prison.

The officer was cut with a shiv after intervening in an attack on the C2 landing at around 7.05pm.
