GARDAÍ IN FINGLAS are investigating after a well-known bronze statue was stolen in the area during Storm Ophelia.

Gardaí said they were investigating the theft of the Mother and Baby statue from Finglas Village.

The statue – officially called Let the Life Flow through – has been in Finglas since 1996. Most recently it was situated in a hedgerow opposite from Tesco Clearwater.

Gardaí said that the statue is believed to have been taken some time after 2pm, while Storm Ophelia was at its height in Dublin.

Commenting on the theft, local Fine Gael TD Noel Rock said he was “disgusted” at the statue’s removal.

“The community are disgusted by these actions and I would urge anybody with any information to contact Finglas Garda Station,” said Rock.

He said he believed the statue had been taken after a tree fell on it during Storm Ophelia.

“I would call on those who took the statue to put it back in its rightful place,” he said.

The Finglas community are immensely proud that this work of art represents to the area and those who I have spoken to want to see its quick return.

Anyone with information on the statue’s whereabouts is asked to contact Finglas Garda Station 01-6667500 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.
