A SEARCH IS underway for a Limerick IT student who has gone missing.

Steven Kavanagh, who is a vice president of the LIT Students’ Union, is believed to have last been seen in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The 21-year-old left Thomond Student Village in Limerick and was seen getting into a taxi at 1.50am heading towards Clonlara. It is believed that he was seen getting out of the taxi on the Killaloe side of the Clonlara Bridge soon afterwards.

His family have said they are very concerned for his welfare.

When last seen, he was wearing blue jeans, black shoes and a black jacket.

Students from LIT are taking part in the search today with buses organised to take students to the area where Steven was last seen.

A garda spokesperson said that several search and rescue groups, including the Killaloe Coast Guard and Limerick Search and Rescue, are involved in the search for Steven.
