A MAN HAS been pulled alive from the wreckage of a light aircraft on the seabed close to Sydney, but another man has lost his life.

The plane’s pilot was killed when it crashed into the ocean, but his passenger managed to free himself before being rescued by onlookers, AFP are reporting.

A mayday signal had been sent; witnesses said the aircraft lost power before plummeting into the water.

The Sydney Morning Herald says the plane had come to rest about six metres below water, roughly 50 metres from shore at North Curl Curl Beach.

The 32-year-old survivor was airlifted to hospital in difficult and windy conditions by emergency services, where he is being treated for spinal injuries.
