EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know as you head out the door.

1. #BLACKTIE: It has been announced that a liquidator will be appointed to Blacktie on 1 February. The company’s 11 premises will remain open until then, with hopes that a buyer will be secured. Announcing the news, owner Niall O’Farrell said that he deeply regretted having to make the decision and paid tribute to the company’s employees.

2. #KPMG: The accountancy firm KPMG has warned its Irish staff against posting any information that “may cause damage to KPMG’s reputation”. The internal email, seen by TheJournal.ie, comes just weeks after a controversial video was posted on YouTube in which a reference was made to the company.

3. #ANGLO: The former chairman and chief executive of Anglo Irish Bank, Seán FitzPatrick, was back in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court today, along with the bank’s former finance director Willie McAteer and the former managing director of Irish operations Patrick Whelan. The three have been charged with providing unlawful financial assistance. A trial date has been set for 13 January 2014 which is set to be confirmed at another hearing on 6 March.

4. #WATER: Junior Minister Fergus O’Dowd has said that it is not the government’s intention to cut off people who cannot pay their water charges. He was speaking today while attending a Seanad hearing on the Water Services Bill, under which water charges are to be brought in.

5. #EU: British Prime Minister David Cameron has promised to hold a referendum in 2017 in which people would choose whether they wished to remain in the European Union. The referendum is conditional, however, on the Tories winning the next general election in 2015.
