1. #EXCHEQUER RETURNS: The final exchequer returns for 2012 show that the government took in €36.6 billion in tax revenue last year, €271 million more than expected but income tax take was €124 million below expectations while excise duty was €108 million below what had been expected.

2. #CIVIL PARTNERSHIPS: There were almost 1,000 civil partnerships in Ireland last year according to new figures out today. In total some 965 civil partnerships took place in the country with now almost 2,000 gay or lesbian people entering civil partnerships since they became legal in April 2011.

3. #RIP: The tragic and sudden death of climber Ian McKeever on Mount Kilimanjaro has brought tributes from across the country with Taoiseach Enda Kenny describing the 42-year-old as “extremely passionate” and “driven”.

4. #ARREST: A 17-year-old has been arrested over the death of Jason McGovern, the Monaghan student who was assaulted twice in Omagh last weekend before he later died. An 18-year-old man remains in custody while another man, 21, has been released on bail.

5. #RELEASED: Bankrupt businessman Seán Quinn has completed his nine-week jail sentence for contempt of court and has been released from Mountjoy Prison today. The former richest man in Ireland was jailed last year after being found to have violated orders preventing him from putting assets beyond the reach of Irish Bank Resolution Corporation.
