EACH WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five stories you really should check out before you head for the door at 5pm.

1. #CRIME FIGURES: There has been an increase in the number of burglaries and fraud-related cases in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2010. According to new figures released by the CSO, burglaries have increased by 8.5 per cent during the first quarter on the same period last year, while increases were also seen in cases of theft and fraud and deception related offences. However, there has been a reduction in violent and drug-related offences.

2. #ROYAL WEDDING: Love it, hate it, it was hard to ignore it. Millions of viewers tuned in online and to their TVs to watch the wedding of the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. TheJournal.ie had the inside scoop from (Not) Cardinal Brady as he liveblogged the whole event from (almost) inside Westminster Abbey. But mostly, it was about the frocks.

3. #AIB: The bank’s annual report reveals that it made after-tax losses of €10.4 billion in 2010.

4. #CORK PLANE CRASH: The tragic crash at Cork Airport which killed six people in February has indirectly claimed another life. The pilot who had previously piloted the Manx2 aircraft on its Belfast-Cork route took his own life at the weekend – he had flown the plane for the last time five days before the crash and his father said he felt guilty that he could have prevented the incident had he been flying on 10 February.

5. #LARA LOGAN: The CBS reporter who was sexually and physically assaulted by a gang of hundreds of men in Egypt’s Tahrir Square in February has spoken about her ordeal for the first time, saying she thought she would be killed.
