1. #RECEIVERSHIP: Celtic Bookmakers, the Wexford-based national chain owned by Ivan and Deirdre Yates, has gone into receivership.

The couple released a statement which said that the company had experienced a 50 per cent loss in revenues since mid-2007. The statement went on to say that all bets will be honoured, as there is “adequate working capital available” to cover them.

The Yates’ said that the receiver would now work to sell as many of the shops as possible, with a view to retaining the maximum number of jobs possible.

2. #BRRR: Mét Éireann has forecast a fresh round of snowfall for this weekend, with as much as 10cm of snow expected in many areas.

However, it is (currently) predicted that this snowfall will convert into sleet and snow over most of the country.

3. #DOCTORS: Non-Irish doctors comprised over 60 per cent of medics called before fitness-to-practise hearings in 2007, according to figures supplied by the Medical Council.

The figures show that of 36 inquiries held last year in both public and private 22 related to non-Irish doctors, reports the Irish Examiner. Of the 13 doctors against whom findings were made and publicised, 12 of these were not Irish.

4. #IRAN: Iran has invited the EU and several other powers to tour the country’s nuclear sites, but has snubbed one major world power – the United States.

Russia, China, the EU, and Iran’s allies in the Arab and developing world all received letters inviting them to send representatives for an all-expenses-paid tour of the country’s nuclear sites. However, the US – the fiercest critic of the Iranian nuclear programme – was reportedly not invited.

5. #QUAKE: An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale has been recorded at North Yorkshire, England.

The incident follows another small quake, which occurred just weeks previously in Cumbria and measured 3.5 on the Richter scale.
