AS UNIONS PLAN another day of industrial action over junior cycle reform, the head of a business group has suggested that teachers should be prevented by law from going on strike.

“We noticed a six-fold  spike in day off requests within 24 hours of the announcement of  the pre-Christmas strike,” Mark Fielding of ISME said.

Hundreds of thousands of second level students would again be staying at home on 22 January, Fielding said, causing massive knock-on problems.

What do you think?

Poll Results:

That's ridiculous. They're perfectly entitled to strike. (7241)
They should be banned entirely from striking. (2122)
They should give more notice of actions. (780)
Not sure/no opinion. (271)
