AN IRISH TEENAGER has died after a swimming accident in Germany.

Munich Police have confirmed that 16-year-old Jack McHugh, from Corofin in Galway, passed away yesterday evening.

He had been in a serious condition at a Munich Hospital since last week. He had been swimming with two of his friends in the Würn river near to the city when he got into difficulty.

In a statement to the Tuam Herald, Fine Gael councillor Tom McHugh, who is also Jack’s uncle, said that he had been in Munich visiting his uncle.

He had been involved in gaelic football with his school and also with local club Corofin.

He was the oldest son of Declan and Mary McHugh.

A post mortem is due to take place and arrangements are being made for his body to be returned home.
