Ten million cigarettes worth €4.2m seized in Cork Port
CUSTOMS OFFICERS IN Cork have seized cigarettes worth €4.2m on a ship travelling from Malaysia.
The cigarettes would have represented a loss to the Exchequer of €3.5m in unpaid taxes, reports RTE.
The massive haul was concealed in a container labelled as ‘paper stationery’ and customs officers say it’s the first time the brand of cigarettes has been seized in Ireland.
A total of 54m cigarettes have been seized in Ireland so far this year, with a price tag of €22.5 million attached to the total haul.
