TESCO HAS ANNOUNCED that it will be creating 200 jobs in Ireland in the next year.

The announcement was made today and involves the opening of seven new stores and six mobile phone shops across the country.

Some 80 new jobs will be created before Christmas as part of the company’s €70 million capital investment progarmme for 2013. This includes 48 jobs with the opening of five new Express stores in Douglas Road in Cork and College Green, Dorset Street, Leonards Corner and Glasnevin Avenue in Dublin.

The company is also recruiting 18 third-level graduates based in stores around the country and at its head office in Dun Laoghaire.

A further 120 new jobs will come with the opening of new stores in Dundalk and Honeypark (Dun Laoghaire) next year. Construction work on these stores is now well underway.

Minister Simon Coveney welcomed the announcement today saying that the food sector “is showing resilience and dynamism”.

Tesco Ireland’s CEO Philip J Clarke said that these permanent new jobs “will help boost local economic activity at a difficult time for the Irish economy”.

The stores at Finglas and Douglas are due to open this week.
