EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you five things you need to know before you head out the door…

1. #HOUSEHOLD CHARGE: Opposition TDs have called for a nationwide boycott of the €100 household charge which will be introduced in the new year. The United Left Alliance and four Independent TDs have launched a campaign asking the public not to register for the new charge.

2. #BANAMA REPUBLIC: NAMA is set to hire private detectives in a bid to ensure its debtors are not hiding some assets away from view. The bad bank has issued a public advertisement looking for a panel to ensure that property developers – some of whom owe hundreds of millions to the agency – do not hold assets of which NAMA is unaware.

3. #SEARCHING: What have you been googling this year? Google has released the top searches made on the search engine in Ireland in 2011 – with Kim Kardashian, iPhone 4S, Georgia Salpa and the Rugby World Cup all featuring highly on the annual Zeitgeist list.

4. #BAD WEATHER: Around 5,000 phone customers are without landline services after stormy weather caused faults throughout the country. Eircom has said that crews will work throughout the weekend to restore service.

5. #AWARDS: Michael Fassbender and Brendan Gleeson have both been nominated for Best Actor Golden Globes. In the shortlist, which was announced today in New York, Gleeson was nominated for his role in The Guard while Fassbender was nominated for Shame. French film The Artist leads the field with six nominations, ahead of The Descendants and The Help which received five each.
