THINGS WE LEARNED

#PHOENIX PARK Nine people were stabbed and one is dead from an overdose after last night’s Swedish House Mafia concert in the Phoenix Park. Gardaí have one person in custody in relation to stabbing incidents while there were a total of three overdose deaths in Dublin last night. Concert promoters MCD have issued a statement this evening.

#RUSSIA Devastating floods have killed at least 146 people in Russia. It’s the Krasnodar region’s worst natural disaster in history.

#BRIAN COWEN Enterprise Ireland said today that it had no involvement in paying for a €47,000 six-week course for former Taoiseach Brian Cowen in Stanford University in California. Cowen told the Mail on Sunday that he may use the Executive Education course to return to public life.

#FLOWERGATE The government press secretary moved to dismiss reports today that a complaint has been lodged against TV3′s political editor Ursula Halligan after an incident involving the Taoiseach and a flowerpot last week.

#GOOD NEWS A Monaghan coach company will be sending 15 buses and 30 drivers to London for the 2012 Olympics after winning a contract to shuttle athletes around. Meanwhile the Volvo Ocean Race is estimated to have injected €100 million into the Galway economy.

#THE TENNIS Roger Federer has clinched his seventh Wimbledon title after beating Andy Murray in a four set win. The Swiss has reclaimed his spot at the top of the world rankings.
