IN OUR NEW You Tell Us feature, we’ll be asking you to share your own thoughts and tips, with a new question each week – based on different age groups, activities and location.

Everyone is welcome to contribute, and we’ll feature the best answers in our weekly Family Magazine for thousands of other parents to read.

This time, we asked

What’s the best day out in and around Dublin for 5 to 10 year-olds?

1. Head to Explorium, the kids’ science museum in Sandyford : I brought my three-year-old and six-year-old here recently and they loved it, especially the six-year-old. There’s a room where you interact with a screen on the floor and kick basketballs, ice hockey pucks and leaves around the place. We spent a little over two hours in the junior section and probably could have spent longer.

2. Pack up some sambos and head to Powerscourt Waterfall: It’s a short drive outside Dublin but Powerscourt in Wicklow is a beautiful picnic spot for kids and families on a summer’s day.

3. Or get the Luas to Phoenix Park: A picnic here beside the visitor centre is always a great day out.

4. Pet some animals at Newbridge House in Donabate: We visited Newbridge House a few years ago and it was a joy from start to finish. There’s a yard full of goats and chickens, sheds with pigs, an aviary and fields with cows, turkeys, horses, donkeys and more. We were then treated to the outside, free, modern and well-equipped playground which had rides for every child from barely toddling to teen age.

5. Burn off some energy at Clonfert Pet Farm in Kildare: It’s just a short hop past Maynooth and our five love it. There’s a zip line, football pitch, pet farm, bouncy castle and go karts to enjoy while soaking up good country air.
