MORE THAN FIVE thousand homes and businesses have been left without phone service by the bad weather yesterday and overnight.

However, around 15,000 households have seen their electricity restored after losing power yesterday. Just over 100 homes and businesses remain without power, according to the ESB.

ESB crews are out again this morning and are working to fix the remaining problems.

An Eircom spokesperson said there were currently 5,300 properties nationwide that were without phone service and had reported faults on the company’s system.

Crews have been working to restore services as soon as possible and are back out again this morning, she added.

It’s thought the number of faults could rise further, with more gales predicted today. Met Éireann is predicting strong winds around the country from midday.

A spokesperson for ESB said they were aware of the forecast and crews are on standby to deal with any faults that may occur.
