THREE MEN WERE arrested and charged yesterday following an incident at the controversial Smithfield horse fair in Dublin.

All three men, who are in their 20s, were charged with public order offences and are expected to soon appear in court.

The gardaí confirmed that one of the men had attempted to steal a horse at the fair.

The horse fair at Smithfield has come under increasing scrutiny following a violent incident last month, in which a teenager almost lost an arm when he was attacked with a slash hook.

The Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) said that it was a “miracle” no one was killed in the incident, after shots were fired and panicked people and horses fled across the plaza.
