You're fired! The Apprentice will not be returning for fifth season

No more penny apples…

TV3 HAS SAID that The Apprentice will not be returning this year bringing an end to the Irish version of the popular programme after four seasons.

The show, which saw hopefuls vie for a chance to work as an apprentice with entrepreneur and businessman Bill Cullen, was produced by ShinAwiL and it was decided by the independent broadcaster that it would not renew the series for a fifth year.

While contestants initially vied for a chance to work with the former market-seller who wrote the best-selling book It’s A Long Way From Penny Apples, last year the format was changed where contestants instead competed for an investment in their business idea.

No reason was given for the decision to cancel the series but viewing figures had slipped since the first series.

The broadcaster said in a statement: “TV3 would like to take this opportunity to thank ShinAwiL for four successful years of The Apprentice. TV3 looks forward to announcing a raft of new programmes at its autumn launch in August of this year.

As well as being famous for Cullen himself, the series was noted for infamous contestants such as  Breffny ‘the Breffmeister’ Morgan who uttered this famous line:

Then there was the moment where one-time popstar Michelle Heaton fell over:

And if you’ve a hankering for some nostalgia then here are the 20 most memorable moments from the first three seasons.
