THE TOP SONGS on charts across the world are often fairly uniform.

For example, a quick glance at the Irish chart compared with Billboard in the United States shows songs in common, such as Cheerleader by OMI, Shut Up and Dance by Walk The Moon, and See You Again by Wiz Khalifa.

But dig deeper into people’s music habits will reveal songs unique to the tastes of individual cities.

Spotify has created a new interactive map exploring this phenomenon. It tracks the songs that people listen to a lot in one particular city, but not so much anywhere else.

When it was released earlier this week, Spotify noted that “this will tell you that New York, New York uniquely can’t get enough of The Chainsmokers, while Berlin thrills disproportionately to one particular song by Jakob Dylan”.

For example, a snapshot from the three cities included in Spotify’s analysis from the island of Ireland shows marked differences between regions.

Cork (lads, seriously, go easy on The Coronas)

Belfast (Hit The Diff, great choice)
