GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED a murder investigation into the death of Dmitry Hrynkevich in Tralee following a serious assault.

The decision has been made following a post mortem, the results of which are not being disclosed due for operational reasons.

24-year-old Belarussian Hrynkevich, who grew up in Killarney and at 7’6″ was the third tallest man in Ireland, died on Friday night after being assaulted at Killeen Wood in the town last Wednesday.

He was originally from Minsk, Belarus.

“Gardaí in Tralee investigating the serious assault of a man, 24 years, have begun a murder investigation following a post mortem which was carried out 3 October 2015 at Kerry General Hospital,” gardaí said in a statement.

Hrynkevich was found unconscious in a garden in the town at around 10.35pm on Wednesday.

Two men (one in his 30s and the other in his 20s) were initially arrested in connection with the suspected assault.

Both have since been released without charge. A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses, and say they particularly want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Killeen Wood at the time of the incident in Wednesday night.

Tralee Garda Station can be reached on 066 710 2300. The number for the Garda Confidential Line is 1800 666 111.
