THE PEOPLE OF Longford are back of the class when it comes to Twitter, according to new research compiled by digital agency Eightytwenty.

The midlands county is flagging behind its neighbours and near neighbours in the region — like Leitrim, Laois and Roscommon, according to the data.

In fact — a quick glance at the social media site delivers hard scientific proof that Longford just doesn’t see the appeal of Twitter, and is pretty much convinced it’s just full of people from Dublin posting pictures of their breakfast…

Alright, alright…  in respect to the people who clicked on this post expecting to see some serious research, represented in infographic form — here it is:

In terms of the gap between the country’s top Tweeters and those at the bottom of the table, Louth natives have been sending an average 6,588 messages for every 1,000 people in the county — compared to 1,128 in Longford.

Hovering just above the bottom of the table were Cavan (2,077 tweets), Limerick (1,960 tweets), Kerry (1,924 tweets), Westmeath (1,903) and Clare (1,706 tweets).

Waterford people were found to be the second biggest fans of Twitter (5,096 tweets), followed by Monaghan (4,530 tweets) and Dublin (4,461 tweets).

The research, commissioned by Bank of Ireland, looked at all Irish tweets that included location information.
