Updated 8.04am, 15 July

A 22-YEAR-OLD man is to appear in court today, charged in relation to a firearms seizure on Monday.

He was arrested in Ballymun on 13 July with another man after “reports of suspicious activity”.

Their car was stopped by gardaí on Carton Way, Ballymun, Dublin 11 at about 5pm.

Gardaí searched the vehicle and found a 9mm handgun in the footwell of the front passenger seat. They also seized three rounds of 9mm ammunition and a silver silencer.

Both were taken to Coolock Garda Station and detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.

The second man, aged 25, has been released without charge and a file has been sent to the DPP.
