UK: Woman and girl die from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning on boat

Carbon monoxide poisoning is suspected following reports of three people suffering severe breathing difficulties on a private boat on Lake Windemere.

TWO PEOPLE HAVE died following suspected carbon monoxide poisoning on a boat in the UK’s Lake District.

A 36-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl were airlifted by the emergency services to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary after they were reported to be suffering from severe breathing difficulties at about 4pm on Monday. They have both since died.

The woman and the girl were both from the Leyland area of Lancashire.

Cumbria Police say a man who was also on the boat, and was suffering from the same symptoms, was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary where he was continuing to receive treatment.

Police were unable to confirm that the deaths were the result of carbon monoxide poisoning.

“Police are currently investigating the circumstances of this tragic incident and trying to establish the full facts about what has happened. The coroner has been informed,” Cumbria Police said in a statement.
