Vincent Browne to host live presidential debate in October

TV3 will screen a debate between all five candidates currently on the ballot paper.

VINCENT BROWNE WILL host a special 90-minute presidential debate next month, TV3 has announced.

The debate will be aired live on TV3 at 9pm on Tuesday, 4 October.

All candidates who have so far secured a nomination have been invited to attend including Fine Gael’s Gay Mitchell, Labour’s Michael D Higgins, Sinn Féin’s Martin McGuinness and independent candidates Mary Davis and Sean Gallagher.

A spokesperson for TV3 confirmed to TheJournal.ie this evening that it was more than likely all of the above candidates would be in attendance for the debate at the broadcaster’s Ballymount Studios in Dublin.

Details of the debate’s format have yet to be released but TV3′s Director of News Andre Hanlon commented: ”As moderator, Vincent Browne will ensure the debate is lively and informative.

“TV3 wants to give the candidates an opportunity to participate in a debate in a fair and impartial forum.”
