IRELAND IS A land full of hidden gems, historical, architectural and cultural – something the dedicated audience to our Heritage Ireland series has enjoyed.

Not everyone has the means to discover these unique sites and venues and this is where technology can afford an access-all-areas pass. An exciting new series, Experience Your World, kicks off on tomorrow morning with a virtual reality tour of Dublin’s world-famous Windmill Lane Recording Studios.

Windmill Lane has hosted giants of the global music industry over the years, from Lady Gaga to the Rolling Stones, 50 Cent to Sinead O’Connor, David Bowie to U2. (The northside quartet created some of the finest work in their catalogue in this studio – Boy, The Joshua Tree, Pop, All That You Can’t Leave Behind among others.)

Get behind the mixing desk

Our VR tour on site tomorrow will allow you to travel seamlessly through the rooms of the iconic site, pausing to focus in on small details or access information panels and videos on features of interest.

You will be able to circle the Steinway grand piano which sits at the heart of Windmill Lane’s main room and sit behind the mixing desks where The Commitments soundtrack was produced. You don’t need any special equipment to view – just pick up your smartphone or laptop and away you go. (If you’ve got a Google Cardboard or another VR viewer, you can of course have a more fully immersive VR experience.)

The VR project – created in partnership with KBC Bank and - will also be expanded into a new database of neighbourhood magazines to be featured on the site every Saturday. There will also be an opportunity to tour homes for sale every Friday in our property magazine every Friday.

  • Keep your eyes peeled for the VR tour of Windmill Lane Studios, live on at 6am tomorrow morning (and you won’t even have to set a foot out of bed).
