Warm spell to continue into weekend, but heavy showers and thunderstorms expected

Temperatures are set to reach 25 degrees today.

IT’LL BE ANOTHER warm day today, with temperatures reaching up to 25 degrees in parts, but Met Éireann says scattered showers, some heavy, are expected in many areas.

A cloudy start is forecast for much of the country this morning, with showers most likely in the midlands, north and east before brighter spells develop in the afternoon and evening.

Temperatures will range from 19 to 25 degrees.

Tonight will be dry with clear spells and temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees, but patches of mist and fog will form.

Warm and largely dry weather is expected on Friday, with highs of 20 to 26 degrees and long spells of sunshine.

Only the odd light shower is possible in the west and north.

Saturday will be mostly dry for much of the country, though showers are forecast to develop in the southwest later in the day, moving northwards overnight.

It will be “very mild and muggy” on Saturday night, with lows of 14 to 17 degrees.

Sunday will start bright, but scattered showers, potentially heavy or thundery, will move in from the southwest during the afternoon and evening, continuing overnight into Monday.

Daytime temperatures will range from 19 to 26 degrees.

In Northern Ireland, a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is in place until 10pm today for counties Antrim, Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Tyrone and Derry.

While some areas will stay dry, the UK’s Met Office has warned that heavy showers and thunderstorms could cause disruption.

Looking ahead, Met Éireann says temperatures will remain above average into next week, with a mix of sunny spells and showers, some heavy and possibly thundery.
