The restrictions, which will be in place across all Dublin areas, are due to a “serious production problem” at the Ballymore Eustace plant.

DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL has said that nightly restrictions will be put in place from tomorrow evening onwards across the entire Dublin region to conserve water.

The council, on behalf of all of the Dublin local authorities, said that this is due to a “serious production problem” at Ballymore Eustace Water Treatment Plant

These restrictions, which the council said will likely lead to a loss of supply, will be in place from 8pm in the evening until 7am the following morning. It is expected that they will be in place until at least next Monday and will be reviewed on a daily basis.

Prior to this announcement, water pressure levels had been reduced during the night because of the problem which led to a significant reduction in water protection since last weekend. However the council said “this did not achieve the required effect”.

We are working assiduously to identify the cause of the problem and to mitigate the effects, but it may take some time to completely resolve the issue. It should be stressed that there is no problem with the quality of treated drinking water or with storage levels of untreated/raw water.

The council urged customers to help restore water supplies by restricting their use as much as possible.

“The four Dublin local authorities apologise for any inconvenience caused by these restrictions and will do everything possible to minimise their scale and duration,” the council said. “We are asking consumers bear with us while we work to restore the water supply to normal.”
