A MAN WHO was wanted by gardaí was arrested and returned to prison when he was found drink-driving in Waterford last night.

Gardaí had set up an intoxicant checkpoint and the man was stopped. He tried to evade detection by giving officers a fake name.

It then emerged that the man had already been disqualified from driving and was “unlawfully at large”, according to gardaí. He was charged and then returned to prison.

This incident was just one of many drink driving arrests made across the country as part of Operation Surround.

Gardaí in Limerick arrested two drivers under suspicion of driving under the influence. In Balbriggan, north Dublin, 259 cars were checked. Five vehicles were seized for no insurance and one was arrested for drink driving.
