On The Trail: 9 odd, weird and wonderful things from Election 2014
LESS THAN A week to go and over two thousand election candidates across the country are doing everything they can in the final days of the campaign to get as many votes as possible.
That means going to sometimes extreme lengths to grab your attention or generate publicity. Over the past few weeks we’ve brought you some examples of this and asked for your own contributions.
You have inundated us with weird, whacky and wonderful stuff and with voting happening next Friday we bring you our final collection of oddness from Election 2014.
Enjoy…
1. The swans in Bray that are looking for your vote
Nice swan (geddit?!) to James Nolan for sending these in…
2. The Fine Gael hopeful who’s been trying to get our attention on Twitter
Paddy Smyth, a candidate in Rathgar-Rathmines, has been doing all sorts of gimmicky stuff to get our attention including this cannot-be-unseen Conchita-inspired photoshop.
And not forgetting this…
Or this:
3. An old friend who’s been a bit naughty
Remember Jason O’Callaghan? Well he’s not doing his environmental credentials much good with this:
4. The candidate with the sweet supporters
Thomas Byrne is being spoiled with this carry-on:
5. The banner some canvassers will fear
Particularly those of a Fine Gael, Labour and Fianna Fáil variety around Clare Hall in Dublin:
6. The voter who’s having a lucky dip
A door no candidate will want to knock on:
7. The Polish candidate reusing an old campaign video
But if we were Lech Szczecinski we wouldn’t be able to top this:
8. Another campaign video with an original song
Some good fiddle playing going on here:
9. The Green Party candidate wearing a Ramones t-shirt in her poster
And a leather jacket:
