WELCOME TO THE WEIRD Wide Web – where we take a look at the week’s best offerings in tech and social media news.

Extreme reaction to new product of the week

So everyone has been harping on about the new iPhone this week. Whatever the merits and demerits of the new version, the fingerprint recognition feature has got the tech world buzzing. A couple of media outlets took a somewhat extreme angle on this new feature, warning readers that it could mean an increase in phone thieves chopping off people’s fingers. Yikes.

Google Street View blunder of the week

A Google Street View car was involved in an embarrassing incident this week, ramming a bus and a truck while trying to flee from another collision with a bus, Business Insider reports. No one was injured in the incident and we’re hoping Google still uses those images..

Music-lovers’ app of the week

Let your obsessions flourish with the Seenth app which will let you track social media updates from your favourite artists, TechCrunch reports. It has both an artist feed and a fan feed so you can choose to block out the noise or interact with you fellow music fans.

Inappropriate USB-lighter ad of the week

Gizmodo spotted this cracker and we just had to share it with you. It’s a USB key that can light cigarettes and it’s also very ‘romantic’, albeit a little forceful… Our favourite scene is the one in which he plugs his butt into a laptop and blows a bubble.
