'More than one' arrested after West Yorkshire Police shoot man dead

The IPCC said that an independent investigation is underway, with investigators attending post-incident procedures.

POLICE IN HUDDERSFIELD, west Yorkshire say a man has died following a “pre-planned” operation last night.

The man was shot by police near the M62 in the city after 6pm last night.

West Yorkshire Police say that “more than one” arrest has been made. Those arrested have received hospital treatment, but not for injuries related to firearms.

A statement from the force read:

“Around 6pm this evening (Monday 2 January), during a pre-planned policing operation near to the M62 in Huddersfield a police firearm was discharged and a man has died.

“The slip roads east and west bound at junction 24 of the M62 remain closed.

An immediate referral has been made to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who are in attendance in West Yorkshire and West Yorkshire Police are fully cooperating with their investigation.

The IPCC said that an independent investigation is underway, with investigators attending post-incident procedures.
