A WOMAN HAD to be taken to the hospital this morning after she was attacked by a dog.

Gardaí were called to a house on Cork St in Mitchelstown, Co Cork this morning shortly after 9am.

A woman was taken from the house to Cork University Hospital with serious injuries to both arms.

Gardaí confirmed that they are investigating the incident and that the woman was allegedly attacked by a Bullmastiff breed.

It will be up to the woman or a witness to the event to make a complaint.

Restricted dog breed

The Bullmastiff is one of 11 dogs on the restricted dogs list in Ireland.

Under the rules of the list, controlled breeds must:

  • be kept on a short strong lead by a person over 16 years who is capable of controlling them.
  • be muzzled whenever they are in a public place.
  • wear a collar bearing the name and address of their owner at all times.

It is believed that the woman is the owner of the dog.
