FIREFIGHTERS IN NEW York have rescued two window cleaners who were trapped on collapsed scaffolding outside the 69th floor of the new World Trade Center.

Local news reporters have said that two men, named as Juan Lopez and Juan Lizama, have been brought to safety and are in good health.

Cameras on scene had shown the scaffolding at a terrifyingly sharp angle. According to the fire department, the workers were harnessed and not in any immediate danger. They were also in constant contact with their rescuers.

A platform was lowered to reach them but, in the end, a window was smashed in order to get to the victims more quickly.

The first tenants of the One World Trade Center, rebuilt after the 2001 terrorist attacks, moved in earlier this month.
