SEARCH TEAMS HAVE succeeded in recovering the wreckage of Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 116.

Poor weather conditions had hampered efforts to lift the wreckage of the helicopter from the water, but they managed to secure the equipment this morning and complete the operation this afternoon.

A spokesperson said there was no evidence of casualties found under the wreckage.

Crew members Paul Ormsby and Ciarán Smith are still missing.

The recovered wreckage will now be taken to a location to be identified and examined by the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU).

The subsurface search has been suspended for a couple of days until weather conditions improve, but it is expected to resume by the middle of next week.
