Transport companies apply to hike fares in 2014
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed that both CIE and the RPA are looking for permission to increasse fare next year.
FARE HIKES COULD be on the way on buses and trains across the country if transport bosses get their way.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has confirmed that both CIE and the RPA are looking for permission to increase fares in 2014 with a decision expected in the Autumn.
CIE run Bus Éireann, Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann while the RPA operate Dublin’s Luas lines.
The transport companies are required to submit a request to the NTA detailing why the price rises are required before the NTA decides on whether they are justified and how much of a rise is considered fair.
NTA spokesperson Sara Morris told said that the applications are made on an annual basis and each application is treated separately.
She continued by saying that any percentage increase will be be decided based on discussions between the companies and the NTA:
