Children as young as 9 handle an unexploded bomb in Belfast
Two devices were thrown at Woodbourne police station in Belfast, with one of the devices exploding.
THE PSNI ARE investigating an incident in which two explosive devices were thrown at a police station in Belfast.
One of the bombs went off at the Woodbourne police station on the Stewartstown Road just after 10.30pm last night. A local DUP councillor said that eyewitnesses saw a group of children, aged between 9 and 11, lift the unexploded device.
Brian Kingston said that the youths had carried the bomb to the front of the station. Kingston said that the incident “exposes the recklessness of terrorists actions”.
“The most disturbing aspect of this apart from the attempt to murder police officers was that children were caught up in this incident,” said Kingston.
British army bomb squad members were called to the area, which remains sealed off today.
