ESB investigating cause of dramatic-looking electrical fire
No-one was hurt in the incident, which lasted about half an hour last night. Fifteen ESB customers were left without power overnight
ESB NETWORKS IS investigating what caused an electrical fire to break out on an overhead power line near Dublin’s Leeson Street Bridge last night. No-one was hurt in the incident, which happened at around 9.20pm outside the busy O’Briens pub.
The fire – caused, according to the ESB, by a fault in the network – provided locals, drinkers and passers-by with a thirty minute long firework display before the area was declared safe shortly before 10pm.
“What’s important when you see a fault like this is that no-one goes near it and that we’re contacted straight away,” an ESB Networks spokesperson told TheJournal.ie, adding that the proper protocol was followed in last night’s incident.
15 customers in the were left without power as a result of the fire, but all were reconnected this morning. Southbound traffic was backed-up along Leeson Street Upper as a section of Sussex Road was blocked off so the fire could be dealt with.
One unit of the Dublin Fire Brigade also attended the scene, responding within minutes after the incident was reported. It was stood down at around 9.50pm. Gardaí also responded.
