Teenager charged over fire that killed family of Dublin-based doctor
The 18-year-old has been charged with four counts of murder.

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with four counts of murder in relation to a house fire in Leicester which killed the family of Dublin-based neurosurgeon Muhammad Taufiq.

The doctor’s wife Shehnila, their 19-year-old daughter Zainab and teenage sons Jamal (17) and Bilal (15) died in the early hours of last Friday morning after a blaze broke out at their home in Wood Hill.

The Crown Prosecution Service has advised police there is sufficient evidence to charge the suspect and he is due to appear in court tomorrow.

Detectives have yet to rule out a connection between the arson attack and the murder of Antoin Akpom on nearby Kent Street hours earlier.

Police do not believe the murders were racially motivated.

Assistant Chief Constable, Roger Bannister, thanked the people of Leicester during a press briefing today for their support during the “complex investigation”.
