Shoppers should be encouraged to buy Irish this Saturday, says SFA
An initiative like “Small Business Saturday” could raise as much as €30 million, the Small Firms Association believes.
THE SMALL FIRMS Association (SFA) has called for a day dedicated to encouraging shoppers to support small local businesses.
In their annual call for a day supporting the sector, the organisation say this Saturday, December 7th, should be Small Business Saturday.
Acting Director of the SFA Aviné McNally said that while consumers are still careful with their money, they are willing to pay if they are sure they will receive “exceptional levels of service delivery and value for money”.
She said that it’s important for consumers to make the decision to buy Irish when shopping this Christmas.
If every adult spent just €10 extra on Irish products the result would be an extra spend of over €30 million on Irish made products during Christmas.
Speaking to TheJournal.ie, she added that their aim is to “focus the mind” and “get people to think when they’re out shopping” on the busiest retail weekend of the year.
“The idea of a Small Business Saturday is a huge success in the United States already,” she said, and that it could have a large impact on Irish retail if a similar national campaign was introduced here.
