IRELAND GAVE €623m in international aid last year — including funds to countries where homosexuality is illegal, like Uganda, Ethiopia, and Zambia.
Should we be providing money to countries that restrict gay rights?
Conditional aid has been widely debated. Britain’s David Cameron said in 2011 that aid to African countries with poor records in the area would be cut. Others have argued that nations giving aid should not automatically believe they have a right to be a controlling force in a country.
