AN EMOTIONAL AND angry Mick Wallace launched a scathing attack on the Justice Minister Alan Shatter in the Dáil this morning.
Wallace’s was responding to an earlier statement from Shatter in which he robustly defended allegations of gardaí mishandling a number of serious cases.
He said that Shatter’s “prime motives are political survival” and “have very little to do with the administration of justice”. He repeated his call for Shatter and Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan to resign.
The Wexford TD raised the case of former Irish Independent journalist Gemma O’Doherty and the death of Fr Niall Molloy in 1985.
He said the parliament is “a sham” if Shatter remains in his position and described the Dáíl as “a joke”.
“Minister, you look up here at us, and you say: ‘How dare those people, with their long hair and raggy jeans, have the audacity to challenge you!’”
