THE CONVICTION OF Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk could set a precedent for bringing other war criminals to justice, but who are the most wanted Nazis?

Demjanjuk has been sentenced to five years in prison after a landmark ruling in Germany which saw him prosecuted not for any specific crime, but based on the theory that if he was in the Sobibor camp in Nazi-occupied Poland, then he was a participant in the killing of people there.

For Efraim Zuroff, chief Nazi hunter at the Simon Wiesenthal Centre – an international Jewish human rights organisation – the hunt goes on. Demjanjuk has now been struck off the number one spot on the list of the world’s most wanted Nazis, but who else is being pursued? The Wiesenthal Centre this month updated its ‘most wanted’ list.
