WE’VE BEEN ENJOYING some pleasantly mild weather in recent days.

It’s set to last for another 48 hours or so — but after that, we’ll be back to freezing cold nights, black ice and snow flurries.

According to Met Éireann:

“For Wednesday night and the rest of the week it will be bitterly cold as a strong and blustery Northwest airflow becomes established over the country.

It will be windy with frequent wintry showers giving falls of sleet and snow and accumulations of several cms of snow are likely in many areas, particularly in the North and West.

The wintry showers will become confined more to exposed Northern and Western parts by Thursday, with more winter sunshine coming through. However, it will stay very cold due to wind-chill.

Daytime temperatures by the end of the week will be between 4 to 6 degrees at best, and nights will be at freezing or several degrees below, with frost and ice.

The cold conditions are expected to persist over the weekend.

Back to today, however — and on a brighter note, the mercury could hit 9 degrees later.
