Irish construction supervisor killed in New York crane accident
The man has been named as Trevor Loftus from Pallaskenry in Limerick.

A 40-YEAR-OLD Irish citizen who died in Manhattan after part of a crane reportedly fell on top of him this afternoon has been named.

According to local media, the man was trapped when part of a crane collapsed as he was removing items from a construction truck.

A spokesperson for the New York Fire Department told the incident occurred at 11.40 am local time yesterday (4.40 pm Irish time).

The New York Police Department said the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The New York Daily News reports that he was an Irish national and construction safety coordinator for a company based in the New York borough of Yonkers.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs said the department is aware of the case and “ready to provide consular assistance.”
