Teenage girls from Donegal are looking to thank some bodyboarders who saved them in the surf

FOUR TEENAGE GIRLS are looking to find a group of bodyboarders who rescued them when they got into difficulty off the Donegal coast at the weekend.
The Donegal Town girls were swimming at Main Beach in Bundoran on Saturday evening when they got caught in a rip current at about 6.30pm.
A member of the public who saw what was happening called 999 and the Bundoran RNLI Lifeboat and Rescue 118 helicopter were both requested to launch by Malin Head Coast Guard.
The Bundoran lifeboat reached the scene within minutes after they left from a nearby station, but on arriving at the scene they found that the girls had already been rescued by a group of bodyboarders who brought them to shore.
The bodyboarders had been using the beach as well but it is unclear exactly how many there were.
Bundoran RNLI says that it’s belived that they were all male and that they more than likely went back to their bodyboarding after the rescue.
The girls were treated by a member of the RNLI lifeboat crew before being airlifted to Sligo University Hospital as a precaution.
The girls were released after being given the all clear but the incident happened so fast that they never got a chance to thank the bodyboarders who saved them.
One of the girls is also understood to have a hoodie belonging to one of the men.
Bundoran’s RNLI station is hoping it can put the two groups in touch with one another.
