Can the Government help renters in Limerick who are being evicted?

A number of residents in an apartment development in Limerick have been handed eviction notices after their homes were bought by an international vulture fund. It’s not clear whether Irish law will help them.

Controversy over the sale of a council-built home

There is anger over the proposed sale of a house in Clondalkin, built by the council along with an adjoining wall at a combined cost of almost €600,000. Councillors have voted to sell the house on the private market – but those against have called it a “scandal”.

  • Work has begun on a €1.5million refurbishment of the Ilac Centre in Dublin’s north inner city. The development will focus particularly on the centre’s opening onto Moore St – where five new retail units are due to be constructed, according to the Irish Times.
  • The former Zanzibar Hotel on Dublin’s quays has been sold for €10 million to an aparthotel group called Lockeliving. The company reportedly want to develop more than 100 rooms at the site.
