Search for fisherman who went overboard in Irish Sea
Boats and a helicopter joined the search this afternoon after the man went missing from a boat off the Louth coast.

RESCUE CREWS HAVE been searching this afternoon for a fisherman missing after going overboard from a trawler.

The Coast Guard helicopter, lifeboat crews and other fishing vessels all joined the search after the unnamed man fell overboard shortly before 1pm, off the coast of Co Louth.

His trawler, the Zenith, was around 19 miles east of Clogherhead at the time. The Clogherhead lifeboat was dispatched at 12.58pm, and nine fishing boats in the area were also alerted.

It’s understood that conditions at the time of the incident were force 4 winds, with good visibility.

The lifeboat remained on the scene until nightfall, but nothing was found. The search is scheduled to begin again shortly after first light tomorrow.

The man is believed to be a foreign national.
