THE CRIMINAL ASSETS Bureau (CAB) carried out a number of searches in Dublin and Wexford this morning, seizing an assortment of items including jewellery, documents and a horsebox.

The searches took place in the Ballyfermot, Finglas and Ballyboughal areas of Dublin and also in Courtown Co. Wexford.

CAB said it also issued a freezing order on “a substantial amount of cash in a financial institution.”

The money was frozen under Section 17(1) of the Criminal Justice Act, 2010 which covers money laundering and terrorist financing.

A statement from the Garda Press Office said investigations into the matter are continuing.

Yesterday CAB’s annual report revealed that the Bureau returned over €3.8 million to the Exchequer last year.
